My To-Do List Got Longer

I'm a bad momma. I still haven't totally baby-proofed my house. Ladybug is almost 10 months old and there are still lots of hazards in every room. Every room, people!

My only excuse is that she isn't terribly efficient at crawling, so she isn't fast enough to get to things before I can catch her. Oh yes, I know my days are numbered.

We hosted Easter dinner, and as usual, we invited friends who didn't have family to celebrate with. We had a smaller-than-usual crowd because we were missing five family members who either had to work or were out of town. But we had five friends come to replace them.

One of those friends is a playmate of Ladybug's, 16 month old J. J is walking and is, what I think, a typical boy. Into everything.

J very politely showed me all the things I need to do to finish baby-proofing! The plug in air freshener needs removed. The pencils need put in drawers and need to stay there when not in use. My stack of books need to find their way back to a book shelf. My cell phone needs to live on a higher countertop.

And that's just the living room and kitchen. Ladybug's room is a disaster, in a baby-proofing sense! Yikes!

Guess what I'll be working on the rest of this week?

  1. Yes everything changes once they get mobile. Two feet seem to just give them that little bit of heigth that they can seem to reach everything we don't want them too. Good luck with your to do list.

  2. Don't feel bad! I just realized yesterday that Baby's dresser drawer is not a good place to keep hand sanitizer, Desitin, Vicks Vapor Rub, Hyland's Teething Tablets, baby toothpaste and his prescription steroid cream for his eczema. Why did I realize this? I saw Baby opening the drawer, of course!

  3. don't feel bad about not totally baby proofing your home. it's hard to get to everything when you have a little one at home! just start getting to them one at a time... you'll soon get them all done!

  5. How nice of J to help you figure out what you need to do yet....kids are nice like that ;) Don't worry, even when you baby proof everything - they will still find something to make unsafe!

  6. You'll get it all done. I realized yesterday as well the many things I need to do and this isn't my first child. A small bookshelf in her room needs to be attached to the wall, plugs need covers, permanent gates on stairways, etc...

  7. We didn't even clear out the twins' room until the day before they came home from the hospital (which was 25 days after their birth so it's not like we didn't have forewarning)

  8. Oh, they are into it all. JR is a tall boy, he can reach close to that first burner on the stove! Needless to say, no kitchen time when mom is cooking.

  9. Hmmmmm.....forgot about baby proofing. LOL. Abby is 1 year and quite mobile. Last night we found her in the bathroom, playing in the toilet (yuck!!!)and had unrolled ALL of the toilet paper. Have you ever read the book "I'll Love you Forever"? The baby in the book does that, and I always thought, "makes a cute picture for a book, but what baby would REALLy do that????" MINE! Well, she is baby #5, and unfortunately, we have slacked off, but she DOES have 6 people chasing/watching over her.

    Many blessings, Heather!
