9 When they arrived at the place where God had told him to go, Abraham built an altar and arranged the wood on it. Then he tied his son, Isaac, and laid him on the altar on top of the wood. 10 And Abraham picked up the knife to kill his son as a sacrifice. 11 At that moment the angel of the Lord called to him from heaven, “Abraham! Abraham!”
“Yes,” Abraham replied. “Here I am!”
12 “Don’t lay a hand on the boy!” the angel said. “Do not hurt him in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld from me even your son, your only son.”
13 Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. 14 Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the Lord will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.”
15 Then the angel of the Lord called again to Abraham from heaven. 16 “This is what the Lord says: Because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your son, your only son, I swear by my own name that 17 I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies. 18 And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed—all because you have obeyed me.” (Genesis 22:9-18)

I love the story of Abraham and Isaac. I believe that God still provides in miraculous ways, in ways that we do not expect. And I also believe that the current "economic crisis" will drive more people to their knees, asking God for His supernatural provision.
25"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
28"And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? (Matthew 6:25-30)

I believe that God will provide for our needs when we put our trust in Him. Our needs, but not always our wants. I know that is a lesson that I need to be reminded of. I'm thankful that God knows the difference better than I do.

Amen, very wise, and true words sweetie.
ReplyDeleteGreat post. My family is an example of God's provisions. While my husband was out of work, this summer, we saw the power of Jehovah Jireh! He is so good. When unexpected money would "appear", we called it "our manna from heaven".
ReplyDeleteGreat post and soo true.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thursday!
Abraham (and Isaac's!) faith always amazes me. God definitely is Jehovah Jireh--this last week, my mom gave us a large check. Two days later, my husband realized we needed to pay the property taxes THAT DAY. Wanna guess the amounts? Yup, within $63 of each other. (We *have* the $$, but would have had to transfer it around, so it was nice that God just provided it!
ReplyDeleteVery true, and a timely message! Great post! Happy Thankful Thursday to you.
ReplyDeleteAmen! Great thoughts. God does not always will to bless us materially. But He does will to bless us spiritually. Great thoughts!
ReplyDeleteOh Heather,
ReplyDeleteThis post was written just for me. Thank you... I am listening to the words... Fully Trust Him..
I will. Thank you...
So many of us spend much of our lives without being in "need". We are very spoiled in our Western culture. It is sad becuase it is when we get to a point that all we can do is hang on to Jesus,we finally see Him as our Jehovah-jireh,our Provider. It is then that we are free from worry. We learn to truly trust Him for everything.
