But I have one spot that I need your help with, O Wise Internetz. This is the view from the kitchen window above the sink.
It's not a tantalizing view, is it? It's rather boring. I'd like to add something to spice up the view, but I'm on a budget. Plus it gets very hot on that side of the house during the South Carolina summers. You can see the concrete patio, the trees in our backyard, and the neighbor's backyard. What do you think I should do? A bird feeder? A window box with flowers? Some yard art or tree art?
Please, O Wise Internetz, give me your opinions! Thank you!!

I think you should make a trip back to Rochester and pick up some garden iron from Green Oak Antiques :) I think a bird feeder or birdbath would be nice.
ReplyDeleteA window box with flowers would be nice, and some azaleas under the trees would be good, too. You can occasionally find azaleas at Lowe's for $2 each - the plants are tiny, but they'll grow!
ReplyDeleteI'm imagining a lounge chair and potted plants.
ReplyDeleteooohhh, yeah flowers and maybe a bird feeder!!
ReplyDeleteWell that view is better than the one from my sink! I'm going to make a little bird haven outside mine with a bird bath and a feeder or two. I'm checking Freecycle and Craigslist for the bird bath as they can get pricey but there are all kinds of bird feeders for not a whole lot of money. Do you get hummingbirds there? You can make food for them with water and sugar (I'd have to look up the exact measurements).
ReplyDeleteI think your yard is nice!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful view. I don't find it boring at all. I can see a lot of treese and dark green grass, that makes it tantalizing to me.
ReplyDeleteHappy WW! My WW is @ http://ordinaryandawesome.blogspot.com/2009/03/wordless-wednesday-i-faces.html
I love your view and I personally wouldn't change it. Those trees would be a great place for a hammock!
ReplyDeleteI know what you need. A really great tree loft built between three of those large trunks that are closest to you. Kind of like a tree house, but built between several. =)
ReplyDeleteMy kitchen looks into my dining room, and my dining room looks out onto the grass that separates my townhome from the one over from us. Your view is lovely! We had to beg the builder to put in trees. They did, and the trees are about ten feet tall, but nothing like yours.
ReplyDeleteGeraniums love the sun and would be a great contrast to the grey patio and various greens and browns. Color that pops is what you need, even if it comes in petunias from Lowe's or Home Depot @ 9.96 a flat. The hammock idea is a soothing thought--but they can be pricey.
Gosh, enjoy it, you've been blessed with everyday miracles all around you: trees and sun!
It is beautiful and I love the hammock idea! :)
ReplyDeleteYou've had some great ideas! I can see a bird feeder & a bird bath, and the edge of the patio lined with potted plants! You could grow all sorts of flowers from seeds to save money - even some edible plants to help with your grocery budget. Tomatoes, peppers & herbs all grow great in pots. I found small veggie transplants at Lowe's for $1.24. Go for the smaller plants, because they will grow!
ReplyDeleteI can't find your comment where you asked me about gardening with the kids, but I'm working on a post that answers it... It should post at 6am in the morning.
ReplyDeleteActually, I think the view from your window is wonderful! I live in the Chicago suburbs where we are surrounded by 6-foot fences and small trees in our newish subdivision.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment about being a Lostaholic. I was laughing out loud. Very funny!
This pic made me a little homesick. I grew up in the good ole' SC. I saw it and thought it looked like a SC landscape and saw under that I was right. I think maybe 2 chairs with a little table between, and a potted plant. Maybe line the patio with hostas. It looks shady and they just come back bigger & more beautiful every year.
ReplyDeleteGood luck.
I do like the view as is.
As I was looking for things to make with my kiddos I ran across this article on how to make a bird bath: http://jas.familyfun.go.com/crafts?page=CraftDisplay&craftid=10832 I bet you could use finger paints with ladybug as long as you put a sealer on it!
