Top Ten Steelers

My brain isn't firing on all cylinders this morning, so I sent out a query to my Twitter friends for a topic for my Top Ten list today. There were lots of GREAT suggestions, some of which gave me a good laugh.

Since the National Football League officially kicks of the season this Thursday with my beloved Steelers playing the Tennessee Titans, I am listing my all-time favorite Steelers. This is just my opinion; I'm sure you have your faves too, so don't be hatin' if I leave someone off the list. These are in no particular order.

1. Big Ben Rothlisberger

2. Hines Ward

3. Jerome "The Bus" Bettis

4. Terry Bradshaw

5. Franco Harris

6. Lynn Swann

7. Santonio Holmes

8. Troy Polamalou

9. Rod Woodson

10. Mel Blount

Some of my earliest memories are of watching the Steelers when I was a kid. I do have clear memories of watching them beat the Dallas Cowboys in Super Bowl X (1976).

Are you a football fan? Which team do you follow, and who are your favorite players (past or present)?

  1. Even though the Steelers are not my favorite team, I'll agree with you on 4-6 on your list. Overall, great picks!

In my house, we have two favorite NFL teams. On the AFC side, it's the Chiefs (because I grew up in KC). On the NFC side, it's the Eagles (because hubs grew up in Lancaster County, PA). Right now, it's easier for me to cheer for my husband's Eagles than for my Chiefs! I miss our 90s teams, when we had such a killer defense. There will never be another linebacker like Derrick Thomas. Those were the days...

  2. How did I not know you too were a Steelers fan? We are literally counting down the days till Thursday here. My all time fav Steeler is still the bus. I currently like Heiz and Troy, but still miss the bus a great deal.

  3. Yeah, ahem. I am from St. Louis. Are you done snickering? Thankfully, I am more a baseball than football fan so the stinky Rams don't affect me too much.

  5. I like your list! I just stumbled onto your blog and liked that you were a Steeler fan so I stuck around to read a bit. :) My favorites from your list are Polamalou and Holmes (being huge Buckeye fan). My aunt lives outside of Pittsburgh and ran into Polamalou at Giant Eagle one day. She said he was as soft spoken and nice as anyone can be. I enjoyed reading some of your blog posts. I especially liked the words that your daughter is saying. SO CUTE!
