Hmmm. Seems as if I have talked about community here before. Rather, the fact that I believe strongly that we need community.
Yesterday over at Musings of a Housewife, Jo-Lynne shared a great post emphasizing the importance of building a community within your blog because that is what keeps readers coming back. (At least, readers who are not related to you.) And in that post, she had her readers share their twitter ID in the comments. That way, she could follow them & her readers could follow each other too.
What a great idea! I told her I was stealing it!
I really do want this blog to be a place where we can relate to each other, not just because I have a cute kid or tell funny jokes. But because we need support to make it through this journey.
And if you are not on Twitter, here is Jo-Lynne's guide for Twitter beginners. Try it. Give it a month. If you don't find it worthwhile, then ditch it. But try it!
So, leave a comment here & include your Twitter ID. Then hop on over to read Jo-Lynne's post. She's much more eloquent than I am, really. And if you don't already follow me on Twitter, here's your chance!
Follow me, follow each other. Let's truly make this a community!

I had a lot of fun with Jo-Lynne's post!
ReplyDeleteI'm @Jenidvm. (I know YOU know that, but I might meet someone new!)
I have commented on a few of your twitters but never made it over to your blog. I'm so glad I found it. Our children have the similar need to destory computer keyboards and pee in public. I love connecting with moms I can really relate too. I am not sure if I will be as accepted...I am a late mom. I try and try and set the clock early, fake the actual arrive time by 30 minutes and we still are 5 - 10 minutes late EVERYWHERE. I'd love to hang in community. I'll add your link to my blog. My site is down today so take your time (really).
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome idea! I'll check out Jo-Lynne's post. :)
ReplyDeleteLori, I'll totally accept you. I'm a late mom, too! I've tried all the same tricks and nothing works...how does that happen?? (Gee, I guess if I knew the answer to that I wouldn't be late, would I?) Anyway, I just saw Heather tweet your ID so I'm following you now.
And it only took me about 5 hours to realize that I didn't leave my twitter id on my previous comment. LOL @barefootmomlady
ReplyDeleteI'm not going anywhere. I might not stop by everyday, but I visit as often as I can.

Geez, Jo-Lynne is a FRIEND of mine and I didn't realize she had written a Twitter guide (nor have I rad this post of hers yet). It's a lovely idea and I have to admit, what you've described in your post is the blogger I used to be...when I tried to balance my time better, I gave up reading blogs for the most part. Between that and Twitter sucking time, and probably mostly going back to work, my community online? Not so vibrant.
ReplyDeleteI truly miss it but have yet to re-engage at the level I'd like to. Maybe today...:)

Love it (and Twitter) I am @multitaskingme.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you were inspired! :-) I just love Twitter. But then you knew that. ;-)
