If you've been reading this blog for any length of time, you know that we are BIG fans of Signing Time and Baby Signing Time. In fact, Ladybug (2.5 years old) is watching a BST video as I type this.
Here are ten reasons why I love Baby Signing Time (since we don't own any ST videos, I'll keep it to BST):
1. Ladybug knows every sign on all four BST videos (I think there are at least 20 different signs on each video). (She knows a lot of other signs that we've learned along the way too, probably 200+ now.)
2. I've learned every sign too, so I can keep up with her!
3. It encourages Ladybug to sing and sign along. I love that!
4. Ladybug loves the cartoon Leah, Alex, and Hopkins.
5. The signs that we've learned from the videos are words and concepts that are necessary for a two year-old. Objects like tree, flower, sun, clouds, moon, stars. Concepts like share, happy, sad, opposites.
6. The music is really good (unlike some other kids' shows that make my ears want to bleed).
7. The other night as Ladybug was falling asleep, she was rehearsing every sign on one of the BST videos. It was another one those precious moments that I want to remember always!
8. It provides fun, interactive play time for us. I watch, sign, and sign along with Rachel too.
9. Although most of the time I watch BST with Ladybug, occasionally I do allow myself to get a few things done while she's engrossed. (sometimes, even go to the bathroom by myself! gasp!)
10. It's a family activity as well, since Hubby loves to sing and sign with Rachel too.

(We did not receive anything in compensation for this post, nor was I asked to post about Signing Time. We are just BIG FANS!)

Baby Signing Time is HUGE in our house. The songs are dangerously catchy, though, and my husband and I both find ourselves absent-mindedly singing them at random. Strollin', strollin', strollin' down the sidewalk...
ReplyDeleteBased on your glowing recommendations, we registered for 4 of the Signing Time DVDs when we were expecting David. They are fantastic! We love them, Wendy loves them, and David is fascinated. I know it won't be long until he starts signing, too!
ReplyDeleteI may have to check out that video. I'm slowly trying to teach my son to sign but I can see where music/video would help a bunch!
ReplyDeleteIt's truly amazing (and at times scary!) to me how much they absorb so young!!!!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE SIGNING TIME. We watched BST#1 yesterday. Asa doesn't like TV as much as Lydia so we haven't watched as many. But he is signing SO much! I love it!
ReplyDeleteAh! Thanks for the Baby Signing Time love!
ReplyDeleteI can attest, you didn't receive anything to write this:) But I will point you in the right direction to download our sign checklists. Just so you know Baby Signing Time teaches a total of 100 signs and it sounds like LadyBug has got most of them down.

We also have checklists for Series One and Two when she gets there.

Oh, what great memories this brought back!!
ReplyDeleteWhen my daughter was a toddler, Signing Time was on our local PBS station, and we snuggled up and watched it every Saturday morning.
Fun list.
ReplyDeleteWe're big BST fans here, too. I'm looking forward to the day when Mary starts signing (and singing) along, too!
