There are days that I feel like I'm losing it. Is it my age? Is it my nature? Is it that I have a strong-willed 3 year old? Maybe a combination of all of the above.
Whatever it is, I have found little things that help me feel "normal" amidst the crazyness. Some days require just one or two of these, other days require all ten.
1. Exercise. Really. A good sweat is great at restoring my sanity!
2. Getting a shower and getting dressed, helps me feel like a human being.
3. Putting on make-up. Even if we're not going anywhere, I try to put on make-up every day.
4. A good cup of coffee. Even if it's decafe, or iced, there is something about coffee that picks me up and tells me that it's going to be okay.
5. Twitter. A good conversation on Twitter goes a long way in restoring my sanity.
6. Chocolate. Does this need any explanation?
7. Remind myself of God's promises. I have a spiral pack of index cards and glued some of favorite verses on them. I just have to read a few of them and I feel my mind returning.
8. Get some alone time. I can't always get time alone in the course of the day, but if I REALLY need time alone, I will turn on the TV for Ladybug and I'll go into another room. Gotta do what you gotta do!
9. Hugs and kisses. If Ladybug is willing to give them, hugs and kisses always brighten my day!
10. Go for a walk. Different from exercise, sometimes just a short stroll will clear my mind.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who has days that I feel like I'm losing my mind! What are your coping strategies to keeping your sanity?

I think 3yos are required to make their parents question everything they ever knew about parenting every day.
ReplyDeleteA quick coping strategy that I use is focusing on taking DEEP breaths for a few minutes. It really helps to clear my head & release some tension.
Love it! I have to make myself do a lot of these things on a daily basis too. When it gets to the point where it's annoying to take a shower and put on "real" clothes every day (I work from home), I know I need to re-access the situation and get out more often!
ReplyDeleteGreat list!! I use twitter as my newspaper..haha. If it's not important enough to be a trending topic, I don't care to know it. :-P I also very highly second the *get dressed* thing even though it's so hard to force myself to do it. I always know I'll feel better after I do it, even it it just means brushing my hair and changing into a cute little snug tee & velour lounge pants! Oh and I love your tag line at the top of your page...it's been AGES since I visited a blog in person since I use Google Reader for all the feeds I read. But I stopped by today and the "Life is not meant to do alone" tagline really jumped out at me. That's sooo my philosophy! :) :) :)
ReplyDeleteI think you are totally normal! Or otherwise I am losing my sanity right with you! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your top 10 and can TOTALLY relate with each of them! :)
