Where has the week gone? I finally feel like I am in a groove, then another week shows up with its demands and schedules.
Here's my weekly recap:
Exercise: I did cardio 6 days out of 7. I ran, I biked, I walked, I Pilate'd. I am counting lifting & carrying boxes as my upper body strength training for the week. Got LOTS of steps. Only one day under 12k (which is my daily goal), and two days were above 13k.
I really am enjoying running, although it is still a walk/run ("wunning"). I had a couple of running questions that I posted on Saturday, so if you're a runner, I'd love your input.
I'm going to ease up a bit on the exercise this week. We have five nights of Vacation Bible School (Sunday-Thursday), and Hubby and I lead the music. We do tons of choreography and sign language with the songs, so that makes for a very active week. Plus, we're moving to a new house this week. So, lots of carrying, lifting, walking, etc, etc.
Food Journal: Back into my daily habit of keeping my food journal (I use SparkPeople). I have actually upped my calorie intake a bit this week (by 200 calories/day), because with all the activity, especially running and getting extra steps, I started feeling weak and drained. I'm staying on track with keeping processed foods to a minimum, and focusing on 7 servings of fruits and veggies every day.
I know some of you also subscribe to a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture), so you understand that sometimes you get foods that you just don't know what to do with. Two weeks ago, and again this past week, we got a large bag of raw peanuts. You know you live in the South when raw peanuts show up in your CSA basket! I roasted some the first time, but I also boiled some. And I boiled all of them this week. I never used to be a fan of boiled peanuts until I made them myself. Oh, Mylanta! What a great snack! I'm converted! (And they are the South Carolina official state snack, don't ya know.)
This week, nutrition will be a big challenge. We eat dinner as part of VBS, and all of the meals are akin to public school lunches. Not only is there white bread, there are precious few veggies. I am taking carrot sticks for Hubby, Ladybug, and me (and anyone else who wants them), so we'll have at least one veggie. (I don't mean this to be a negative comment toward the wonderful women who work the kitchen at our church. When you have a budget and are feeding 100 people a night, it's a tough job.)
The Scale: After not being able to weigh in last week, I decided that I'm not going to weigh in until after we move. I don't want to be tied to a number, then get into a new house with different floors that make the scale saying something different. So for my own mental health, I'm taking a week off from the scale. I'll re-check my measurements after week get moved as well. I know I'm doing well because I feel good, I'm exercising, and I'm eating good food.
Because of moving and VBS, I don't know that I'll have tons of computer time with week. I'll get to as many Mamavation posts as I can. Thank you SO much for your continued support and encouragement!

Good idea on taking a break from the scale. One small change like floors can make a difference and could possibly leave you discouraged!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with VBS. I always wanted to pull my hair out some nights when I worked it. I remember the meals they had too... sometimes it was cookies and others it was hot dogs/burgers. Not great for you! But like you said, it was on a huge budget!
HAve a great week and good luck with the upcoming move
WOW! and I thought I was busy! Holy Smokes! Good luck with your move and everything. Could you pack your own dinners so that you don't have to eat with the ladies provide? You would have a little more control then. I totally understand though with the move that packing a dinner is just some extra work & stress that you could do without - good luck with everything!
ReplyDeleteHang in there, Mama! You can only do what you can do and work with what you have. Good idea on the scale!! So healthy! Peanuts!!! So cool!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your move and VBS! I seriously think moving is one of the hardest exercises out there. If I were a professional mover, I'd totally be buff. Congrats on all the cardio done this week! 6 days is impressive when I struggle to get in 1 or 2!
ReplyDeleteYay for the new house! Take it easy and have fun at VBS. I know you'll make wise and healthy decisions even though you're taking a break from your regularly scheduled programming.
ReplyDeleteDon't worry about interacting with everyone this week. You are gonna be busy, we understand. Have a great week with food, moving and stress. I look forward to reading next week.
ReplyDeleteOh man I love me some boiled peanuts. I even know how to say it right, like the little old men at the roadside stands - bowled peanuts, not boy-led.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if you could put some in a food processor and make some raw peanut butter? Or would that be gross?
I totally feel you on the VBS food, our was in the am and the kids were fed donuts and sugar cereal. They did offer fruit too which was good but they rely on donations and a tiny budget so you just can't complain. Thankfully we ate breakfast before we went.
ReplyDeleteHave a great week and I hope all goes great.
Just do your best because in the end as long as you know you gave it all you had that is enough! Have a good week.
ReplyDeleteI think the break from the scale is a good idea. I didn't realize a different floor would register different on my scale. I could have died the first time I moved my scale to the floor in a random place and I'd gained five pounds and then put it in a different square on the tile and was three pounds under. So now I have "the square" I always weigh on. Silly, in a way, but at least I know it's on the same wavelength every time.
ReplyDeletewow look at your busy bee! I agree with Kia we know you are busy so take that time to yourself! Have a great week and have fun!
ReplyDeleteI wish you luck on your move! Its super stressful I know. Take a deep breath and keep moving! You are doing wonderful on your healthy living journey!
ReplyDeleteHeather, good luck with the move! I've never heard of boiled peanuts? What the heck is that like? Does it give it a different taste? hmmm...
ReplyDeleteYou're one busy mama! Good luck with the move and VBS!
ReplyDeleteYou know, I've never had boiled peanuts. Sounds fantastic! I'm normally not a big peanut fan...unless it's made into peanut butter or covered in chocolate (M&M's - LOL), but I'll certainly give it a try!
Good for you! Stay off that scale. There is too much stress surrounding a move. You're doing yourself a huge favor. Good luck this week.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the move! Your are doing great with running/walking! I have also started that this week and I feel Awesome!
ReplyDeleteBoiled peanuts is a taste that I have not grown into. I tried it a few years back when we were visiting my husbands cousin who (at that time) lived in North Carolina working for a white water rafting company. Definately interesting taste... but not for me. :P
ReplyDeleteOur church is doing VBS at night this year too... which is a fantastic idea... but doesn't work for my kiddos schedule. Bummer. What is your theme?
I agree that taking a break from the scale can be a good thing... you already have a lot going on... and stressing out over a number isn't going to help anything.
Have a fantastic week! *hugs*
Rach
It sounds like you are doing great for having such a busy life! Congrats on all that activity!
ReplyDeleteHope you have an enjoyable busy week!
ReplyDeletewow!! way to hit it!!! 6 out of 7 days... ROCKSTAR!!
ReplyDeleteway to go with the exercise thats awesome. I use dailymile to mark my miles and i like how it shows each day how many miles i did and then overall in the week its great
ReplyDeleteYou have got an awesome plan for this week! Good for you for having a level head about it all and keeping it all in perspective! Have fun at VBS, and I hope you have an easy time moving! (By the way, I totally chuckled at "wunning")
